Week of 10/24

Last week we learned about the scientific method and learned learned about why certain things float and sink!

We were shocked when the pumpkin floated!

In math, we used our unifix cubes to help us with subtraction.

Dear Parents,

This week we will have our Saints Celebration! Be sure to read the reminders about the special day below. Here are your reminders for the rest of the week:

- This is the last week to send in donations for our troops! Please do so by Friday! Thanks so much!

- We will be going on our first field trip to see "The Wizard of Oz" at Carroll High School on Wednesday, November 16th! Be on the look out for the permission form and payment link. We will not need chaperones for this trip, but don't worry, we have a bowling trip in December with our 8th grade buddies where we will need volunteers!

- For the first 3 stories we kept the sight and spelling words to 6 each so that they kids could get used to studying them and to prepare for the test. Since they have been doing such a great job we will now do 10 sight words and 8 spelling words per story.

- Test folders will be sent home tomorrow. Please return them on Wednesday!

- Friday will be a Phillies Dress Down Day. The kids can wear their Phillies gear under their saint costumes.

- Just a reminder to mark your calendar: No school on Tuesday, 11/1 and Friday, 11/4.

- Conferences will be held Thursday, 11/3 (afternoon/evening) and Friday 11/4. You can sign up HERE

Saint Presentation reminders:

- The presentation will be at 9:00am on Friday and will last about 40 minutes! We ask that all family members sit on the side pews (left and right of the alter).

- The kids are to come to school dressed in their costumes over their gym uniforms or Phillies gear. Sneakers are fine.

- Please make sure robes are not too long as we will be walking to and from the church. Also, bobby pins tend to not keep veils on so if you can attach them to a headband that would be great.

Have a great week and GO PHILS!

Week of 10/3

Last week, Mrs. McCracken came in every day
and we began Fundations! The kids love it!

We started to get logged into our tablets and different accounts.

We played a game that focused on our comprehension skill
of the week, Main Idea.

Max and Emma took turns figuring out our Main Idea Mystery Bag!

The class spread out and read their new "bag of books"!

Max and John hard at work on their Fundations magnet boards.

Gym class was cancelled on Friday so the kids
zenned out with a little cosmic yoga!

Charlotte, Felicity, and Lucy took turns reading their bag
of books!

Dear Parents,

Happy October! The kids are settling in and have been doing a great job. I cannot believe we are finished with September already. October will certainly fly by as well. Here are your reminders for this week:

- Information about the first grade Saints Presentation was sent home last week. Each child may choose any saint they want! The report will be due next Wednesday 10/12, so please work on it this week. Please make sure the report and the picture are done neatly. Don't forget to have your child practice reading their report because they will be sharing it with the class for a grade. The Saints Presentation will be on Friday, October 28th at 9:00 am in the Church.

- The kids were given "book bags" last week which have books in them that reinforce the short vowel letters we have learned so far. They will be allowed to bring them home to practice reading if they want, I just ask that they take care of the books and remember to bring them back each day so we can use the books for future classes!

- We will have a gym assembly on Thursday about Growth Mindset. Mrs. Marchese will be sending home more information about it this week!

- There will be a Religion test on Chapter 2 on Thursday. A study guide will be sent home today.

- There will be a Spelling and Reading test on Friday for our story "How Animals Communicate."

- Looking ahead, we have off on Monday, 10/10 and winter uniforms will start Tuesday, 10/11!

- Please be sure to let me know via email or note if your child is staying for a club. With clubs back in full swing it is difficult to keep track of all 18 different schedules. This way I can make a note and make sure dismissal is as smooth as possible.

I think that is all for this week! Please let me know if you have questions about anything!
