Week of 9/19

Last week we practiced partner reading our story!

The partners took turns reading Jack and the Wolf.

Good job, Patrick and Lucy!

We took our whiteboards outside and went on
a "noun hunt" they did great!

The class partnered up and played a game "Race to 100".

"Race to 100" helped practice counting on
and building a strong number sense.

Good work Declan and Max!

We practiced reading to ourselves with our reading phones.

The class loved using the reading phones.

Go Lucy:)

Dear Parents,

We survived our first full week of first grade! I hope the kids enjoyed it and are settling into school and our routines. We are a work in progress but we had a great week! I hope that you are continuing to set routines at home and are giving your child more responsibility. The more we work on this the more independent they will become!

Here are your reminders for the week:

- We will have our first school Mass on Wednesday at 9:00am. All are welcome to join us!

- We will have our first Religion test on Wednesday. Normally a study guide will be sent home for your child to study, but this week we will take it together in school to get used to it! I did send one home today if you want to start practicing with your child!

- We will have our first reading test on the story "Jack and the Wolf" this Friday. I will read all of the questions and answers for the first few tests. The reader will be sent home Thursday so you can read and review the story at home.

- Our first Spelling test will also be on Friday. We have been practicing a lot with short A words in school. Please review the words at home each night as well.

- Sight Words will also be tested on Friday so please make sure you are reviewing them each night. A little zipper bag got sent home today in their H folder on top of their R copybook. This bag is to go to and from school.

- Mystery Reader sign up dates can be found on the blog! Once every one signs up for one date I will let you know and you can sign up for a second if you want to!

I think that is it for this week! Please email me if you have any questions!

Week of 9/12

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our Classroom Blog! We are so excited to start our first full week of first grade and are looking forward to a great year! Thanks to all of you who came to Back to School Night! It was great to meet everyone! We have a lot of fun things planned so keep checking our classroom blog for updates and pictures of what is going on in Room 4!

Here are a few reminders for this week:

- The first few weeks of school are very important for setting expectations and learning our classroom routines and procedures. Students thrive in environments where they feel comfortable and know what is expected of them. I urge you to also have expectations and routines at home as well. For example, each day after school your child can eat a snack, empty their home folder, complete their homework and practice their sight words and spelling words for the week. Simple chores like packing their school bags, helping pack lunches/snack and making their beds will help your child to become responsible, organized and independent!

- Please be sure to check your child's "H Folder" with them every night. You can empty out any papers that were completed in school.

- On Friday, we will be having our One Book, One School Book Club. Students are asked to wear their Camp Wannabe Shirt (from last spring) with their gym shorts. We will be talking about "Encanto" and completing a fun activity with our 8th grade Buddies.

- There will be a dress down day on Monday, 9/19. Please send in $1.00 to dress down. All proceeds will be donated to CHOP.

- I will be sending out a link this week for the Mystery Reader sign up genius! Please sign up to read for one slot only as of now. If you would like to do it virtually please leave a comment so I know! Thanks!

- If your child is going to be absent/late or there is a change in dismissal please email me and Susan Hodgens and shodgens@sksschool.org. Thanks!

- Please email me with any questions or concerns :)

Thanks!
Mrs. Hallinan
