Week of 9/28

Room 4 had their first Religion test on Friday!

Dear Parents,

Can you believe this is our last week in September?! The kids did a great job taking their first tests last Friday. Before we took the tests I told them that the important thing is not that you get a 100 on every test. I explained to them that as along as they studied and tried their best that I will be proud of them no matter what they score!

Here are your reminders for the week:

 - Your child's login information for all of our apps was sent home last week in their Home folder. Please keep this in a safe place! They may access the apps at home to practice reading and math! You can also check out everything we have been doing on Seesaw!

 - If your child ever needs to be virtual, they will log on with their Google email and password. I will post directions under the Virtual Tab.

 - Test folders will be sent home on Tuesday. Please sign each test and return on Wednesday.

 - We started making our math flash cards last week. Please have your child review them along with their sight words and spelling words each night!

 - Please send your child in with three leafs for Art class tomorrow 9/29.

 - We will have our first math test on Friday. We will be reviewing in school all week!

Have a great week!

Week of 9/21

Listening to Dion and Gobi in the school wide Virtual Assembly!

Dear Parents,

We survived our first full week of first grade! I hope the kids enjoyed it and are settling into school and our routines. We are a work in progress but we had a great week! I hope that you are continuing to set routines at home and are giving your child more responsibility. The more we work on this the more independent they will become!

Here are your reminders for the week:

- Please have journals decorated and covered by this Friday.

- We will have our first virtual school Mass on Wednesday at 9:00am. A link will be sent out through Option C if you would like to join us!

- We will have our first Religion test on Thursday. A study guide will be sent home for your child to study, and review, but this week we will take it together in school to get used to it! I ask that you still look over the study guide even though we will be taking it as a class, just so they get use to the study guides.

- We will have our first reading test on the story "Jack and the Wolf" this Friday. I will read all of the questions and answers for the first few tests. The reader will be sent home this week so you can read and review the story at home.

- Our first Spelling test will also be on Friday. We have been practicing a lot with short A words in school. Please review the words at home each night as well, and remember to practice writing them out.

- Sight Words will also be tested on Friday so please make sure you are reviewing them each night. They will not have to write their sight words just be able to read them orally to me.

- Please remember to sign up for Mystery Reader! There are enough dates for each family to sign up 2 times. Please do not sign up for more!

I think that is it for this week! Please email me if you have any questions!

Week of 9/14

While most of you are unable to check out the bulletin boards in the halls I wanted to share what room 4's boards look like! On the first day of school, the children decorated their suns and wrote about one thing they did this summer! I have loved getting to know this "crew" and am hoping for "smooth sailing" this school year!

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our Classroom Blog! We are so excited to start our first full week of first grade and I look forward to seeing you tonight at Back to School Night! We have a lot of fun things planned so keep checking our classroom blog for updates and pictures of what is going on in Room 4!

Here are a few reminders for this week:

- Back to School Night is tonight at 7:00pm. Please review the presentation and have your questions ready! Please use the Zoom link to access the meeting.

- The first few weeks of school are very important for setting expectations and learning our classroom routines and procedures. Students thrive in environments where they feel comfortable and know what is expected of them. I urge you to also have expectations and routines at home as well. For example, each day after school your child can eat a snack, empty their home folder and practice their sight words and spelling words for the week. Simple chores like packing their school bags, helping pack lunches/snack and making their beds will help your child to become responsible, organized and independent!

- Please be sure to check your child's "Take Home Folder" with them every night. You can empty out any papers that were completed in school. These will be in the "Keep" side of the folder. If anything needs to be signed or turned in, please place it in the "Send" side. Please make sure that the Sight Words envelope and the Reading Copy Book stay in the "Send Back" and be returned each day.

- Journals need to be decorated and covered by Friday, September 25th. I will send those home with your child this week.

- On Friday, we will be having our One Book, One School Book Club. We will be talking about "Finding Gobi" and having a live meeting with Dion, the author!

- Friday will be a Dress Down Day. Please send in $1.00 with your child. Please also review the dress down day policy in the school handbook.

- Please email me with any questions or concerns :)

Thanks!
Miss Rooney
