Week of 3/22

Dear Parents,

The kids did a great job taking their Terra Nova tests! I am proud of how hard they focused each morning over the long week! Their creativity and engineering skills blew me away when they built their traps! We had so much fun putting them together and sharing them with the class! Lucky the Leprechaun even stopped by while we were at gym! Check out the pictures of the traps below.

Spring is here and Easter is around the corner. Here are the reminders for this week:

- We will have our Monthly Mass of Tuesday at 9:00am. All virtual students may sign on at 10:35 this day.

- Report cards will be sent home tomorrow. You may keep the report card at home. Please sign and return only the envelope!

- Wednesday is a dress down day! Please send in $1.00 to dress down.

Have a great week!
Miss Rooney

Week of 3/15

Last week, we celebrated Maggie's birthday!

Happy 7th Birthday Mags!

Dear Parents,

Happy Terra Nova week! We will be taking different parts of the test each day. Please follow the schedule that was sent home last week. I told the kids that for homework this week they should be in bed by 8:30 pm at the absolute latest, and that they should be eating a healthy breakfast and packing a healthy snack for recess. These little things really do make a difference. Here are a few reminders:

- Please make sure the kids have a few sharpened #2 pencils and a good eraser each day for the test.

- Today is the beginning the third and final trimester!

- Test folders will be sent home Tuesday. Please sign and return on Wednesday.

- We will still work with "The Big Trip", the long e spelling words and the sight words that were introduced last week, however we will not be testing due to the Terra Nova tests.

- There will be no homework this week! Getting to bed early should be easier this way! :)

- We will be building our leprechaun traps this week and hopefully we will catch on on Wednesday! Thanks so much for sending in the supplies!

bring on Spring!

We had a "mystery bag" activity where the kids picked out clues and had
to guess what season it was!

They did an awesome job:)

Go Frankie!

Caitlin reaching into bag #2!

The students then had to read the clue
to the class.

Go Ben:)

Julia reaching into bag #4!
Dear Parents,

I hope this warmer weather stays with us! The second trimester closes this Friday and I can assure you that this last trimester will FLY by. In this final trimester, we really focus on responsibility, independence and self control. We talk a lot about being "almost second graders" and what being in second grade entails. One of the best parts of teaching first grade is seeing the growth that each child makes in 9 short months. Thinking back from September until now they are completely different kiddos! I am sure you see it too :)

Here are the reminders for this week:

- Test folders will be sent home Tuesday 3/9. Please sign and have the folder returned on Wednesday 3/10.

- There will be math test on money on Thursday. We will review all week and a review will be sent home for homework on Wednesday.

- Leprechaun Trap boxes and materials are due next Monday, 3/15! Please place all materials in your child's box. We will be building them in school!

- Friday will be an asynchronous day for students. I will send you the work to complete on Thursday night.

- We will continue reviewing for the Terra Nova tests that will be taken next week. A schedule and some tips for taking standardized tests will be sent home today. If you could make sure you child has a few #2 pencils ready for next wee that would be great too!

- Our yearbook staff is in desperate need of collage pictures and we need your help! Please send pictures of your child from this year - can be school-related or outside of school, group and individual. We are asking for parents to email pictures by March 15th to sksyearbook@sksschool.org and to please label the email with what grade your child is in. It will help us organize the collage pages. We really appreciate your help!!

That's all for now!
